Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the continuity among partial pictures by displaying overlapped pictures at the peripheral parts of adjacent partial pictures when the partial pictures are synthesized into a picture via a variable power optical system at each partial picture. CONSTITUTION:The image of a sample 5 is image picked up by a TV camera 6 and fetched into a picture memory 4 via an A/D converting circuit 7. The picture signals within the memory 4 are divided to partial picture signals under the control of a control circuit 9, and these partial picture signals are distributed to corresponding partial picture memories 91-9N and then supplied synchronously to corresponding CRTs. An overlap area is previously obtained between partial pictures, and the same image part is set on the image parts at both sides of an image dividing line which is set at the overlap area. At the same time, a relation to maintain the synchronism between partial pictures at both sides of the image dividing line is secured for each partial picture. Thus it is possible to watch continuously the joint areas of partial pictures with no disturbance produced at the joint areas of a synthesized picture.

In the above embodiment, the convex lens 3 has a focal length of 2
Although an example has been described in which the virtual image is placed on a plane at a position of 1/2, there is no limitation to this position as long as a virtual image can be projected, and the virtual image may be placed on two curved surfaces. In addition, not only convex lenses, but also Fresnel lenses, concave mirrors, etc. can be equally used.

(7) Effects of the Invention As described above, according to the present invention, partial images are caused to overlap in advance, and the same image portion is superimposed on the image portions on both sides of the trust line set in the overlapping portion. Since each partial image has a relationship that maintains the synchronization of the partial images on both sides of the Nobutsu line, it is possible to join the two composite images without causing any disturbance at the joint of the partial images. Parts can be viewed consecutively.
