Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the connecting members of an on-off valve from being damaged by muds and flying stones by a structure wherein members, which transmit the power to open and close the on-off valve arranged in a connecting passage for a sub-chamber in response to the rotational frequency of an engine, are connected under the conditions that they are supported by being inserted within the inside of the respective outer walls of a cylinder, an exhaust passage and a crankcase. CONSTITUTION:The rotating shaft 8 of an on-off valve 7 is provided in parallel to the axial bore of an exhaust passage 4 by piercing the inside of the outer wall of the exhaust passage. A pinion formed at the end of the rotating shaft 8 is engaged with a rack 10, which is arranged within the inside of the outer wall of an exhaust port 3 so as to intersect the axial bore of an exhaust port 4 at right angles. A second rack is formed at the other end of the rack 10 so as to intersect the rack 10 at right angles. A pinion shaft 13 equipped with the second rack is provided so as to protrude in a case 14 by piercing the outer wall of a crankcase 14. A third pinion 15 arranged at the protruded end of the pinion shaft 13 is engaged with the sector gear 17 of a rocking lever 16 pivotally supported in the crankcase 14. The other end of the lever 16 is connected to a power source 18 actuating in response to the rotational frequency of an engine.

In this type of device, the on-off valve and the power source are located at separate locations and their movement directions do not match, so when the connecting member connecting them is a link mechanism or cable type, the driving side and driven side The shaft end of the motor must be exposed from the crankcase, cylinder, exhaust passage, etc. Therefore, in cases where the operating conditions are harsh, such as on two-wheeled vehicles where mud and stones may fly, the exposed parts must be protected. This requires measures such as providing a cover, which has the disadvantage that oil seals and the like are stacked, making the whole thing complicated.

To explain this with reference to the illustrated embodiment, (1) indicates an engine, and an exhaust passage (4) connected to an exhaust port (3) of a cylinder (2) of the engine (1) has a communication passage (5).
A sub-chamber (6) is provided which communicates with the sub-chamber (6) through a communication passage (5) of the sub-chamber (6), and an on-off valve (force is provided). A hole is provided in parallel to the shaft hole of the exhaust passage (4) and penetrates through the outer wall of the exhaust passage (4), and the terminal thereof is inserted into the outer wall of the exhaust port (3) and is formed at the shaft end. A binion (9) is meshed with a rack (1 (e) provided in the outer wall of the exhaust port (3) perpendicularly to the shaft hole of the exhaust port (3), and the other end of the rack αQ is connected to the rack 0Q. The pinion shaft a (end), which forms a second rack aυ orthogonal to the shaft and has a second pinion α that meshes with the 22nd rack αυ, is inserted into the case α through the outer wall of the crank case (14). A sector gear aη provided at one end of a swinging lever αe that is pivotally supported within the case α is engaged with a third pinion α provided at the projecting end of the third pinion α, and the other end of the lever ae , a water pump (

Next, to explain its operation, a pinion shaft Q3d is connected via a swing lever ae to a power source QFj that corresponds to the engine speed.
The i2 rack αυ is moved, and the rotating shaft (8) that meshes with the rack aυ and the integrated rack QO is rotated to open and close the on-off valve (the force is to open and close the communication path (5). According to the invention, a power source Q8) is provided in the crankcase α, and a communication path (
The on-off valve (power rotation shaft (8)) installed in the cylinder (5)
2) Since the exhaust passage (4) and the crankcase α are connected via members that are inserted through and supported within the outer walls of the crankcase α, these connecting members can be assembled without being exposed to the outside. Durability can be improved because the connecting member is not damaged by mud, flying stones, etc., and since a protective cover for the connecting member is not required, the engine can be made smaller and lighter.
