Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain exact butting accuracy in the state of welding the end parts of both preceding and succeeding coils, by trimming the cut surfaces of the coils by turning or grinding in succession to the cutting thereof. CONSTITUTION:The end of a preceding coil and the top of a succeeding coil are clamped respectively by means of upper and lower clamps 20a, 21a provided to a clamping device 1a on a stationary base side and a clamping device on a movale base side. Traveling for cutting is started together with a carriage 8 by which roll shears 4, 4' are driven; at the same time, a grinding device 19 mounted to a shear frame 6 travels as well and a grinder 5 grinds the end faces of the coil cut with the shears 4, 4'. The carriage 8 stops upon ending of the cutting and grinding, and the frame 6 is moved downward. The clamping device of the movable carriage advances to butt the ground surfaces of the preceeding and succeeding coils, and a welding torch 14 is driven to the welding start point by a torch carriage 16, by which the welding is started. The device 1a is released when the welding ends, and the coil begins to travel.

Description
