Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify maintenance of a titled display device by inputting light from a light source to plural dots through controllers for selecting and controlling optical fibers and optical switches and digitally displaying signals outputted from a snowfall meter by ultrasonic waves as dots. CONSTITUTION:A titled device is provided with a front board 1, optical fibers 3-1-3-n, light generator 4, light source, reflecting body 6, electric source 7, and optical switches 8-1-8-n. A controlling circuit 9 for selecting individual dots selects and controls the optical switches 8-1-8-n. The controlling circuit 9 selects and controls the optical switches 8-1-8-n by a snowfall depth measuring signal outputted from a snowfall meter 10 measuring snowfall depth from the difference between the reflecting time of an ultrasonic pulse from a road surface and that from the surface of snow to display snowfall depth as dots.

In winter, knowing the depth of snow on the road surface is extremely important not only for road administrators but also for drivers. This invention is suitable for such a confirmation method. The present invention proposes a snow depth display device that is easy to maintain, and will be explained using the following figures.

Figure 1 shows the basic concept of this invention, (■)
(3) is a front panel made of opaque plate glass or plastic except for the dots (2) that form the numbers, and (3) is one or more wires tied together, with one end attached to each dot. An optical fiber is located so that the light passing through this optical fiber causes the corresponding dot to glow.

One end of the optical fiber is fixed to the dot part of the front plate (1), and the other end is located at the light generator (4). and a reflector (R]mlT, EC!TOR) (1)l that reflects the light emitted from the light source (5), and the other end of the optical fiber (3) is connected to the reflector. It is located at the focal point of (6).

The i-optical switch is selectively controlled by a control circuit (9) which is provided in the middle of each optical fiber and selects nine individual dots. Q (I is a snow gauge that measures the snow depth from the difference between the reflection time of the ultrasonic pulse from the road surface and the reflection time from the surface of the snow piled on the road surface, and each reflection time is equal to the temperature measured by the thermometer. The snow depth is determined by correcting the snow depth.
