Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare an additive for petroleum pitch-water slurry, giving a slurry having high concentration and low viscosity and free from coagulation, precipitation and foaming, by using an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of ligninsulfonic acid as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective additive can be prepared by using an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of ligninsulfonic acid (e.g. calcium ligninsulfonate) as an active component, and if necessary, adding a solvent such as water, alcohol, etc., a gelatinizing agent, a rust-preventive, a surface active agent, etc. thereto. The additive is added to the slurry of petroleum pitch (preferably >=90 wt% of the pitch passes through a 200 mesh sieve) and water in an amount of preferably 0.05-0.5wt%. EFFECT:Even a slurry having a concentration of as high as 50-70wt% has low viscosity and high stability.

1-i] There is a method of pulverizing the body material into fine powder and supplying it to a water gas generator as a dispersion in a gas medium such as water vapor or nitrogen-containing gas. However, with this method, it is difficult to control the amount and rate of solid fuel supplied to the water gas generator. For this reason, in recent years a method has been proposed in which powdered solid fuel is dispersed in water to form a slurry and the slurry is supplied to a water gas generator, but this method has two problems.

The solid fuel-water slurry for water gas generation preferably has the following properties.

■ The solid fuel powder must be stable without agglomeration or sedimentation.

In particular, when the solid fuel is petroleum pitch, the surface is highly hydrophobic, so a system of only petroleum pitch powder and water will often aggregate into a solid state even if strong stirring is applied, so it is necessary to stir thoroughly. Even if a uniformly dispersed state is obtained, agglomeration will soon occur and a hard sedimentary layer will be formed.
