Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a printer which can notify users a voltage drop without providing an appropriate displayed warning means by equipping a means to detect a battery power supply voltage drop, detecting the voltage drop and returning a carriage before abnormal operation of the device occurs. CONSTITUTION:An information for functional operation is input into an operation control circuit 2 from a key board 1 through a line (l1), while various informations from a printing section 4 are converted into a converting circuit 3 and input into the circuit 2 through a line (l2). The printing section 4 prints by a power supply battery 6 according to a driving signal outputted from the circuit 2 through a line (l3) and amplified in a driving circuit 5. On the other hand, a voltage comparison circuit 7 is equipped in the battery 6, and when the voltage of the battery 6 becomes lower than the specified voltage generated by a Zener diode 9 to be connected to a power source 8 which is stabilized by a DC-DC converter, a voltage lowering signal is transmitted to the circuit 2 through a line (l4) so as to make a carriage of the printing section 4 perform returning action, and to notify the users the lowering of the power supply voltage.

In FIG. 1, 1#i is a keyboard section for inputting information regarding printing of characters and symbols, and function operations such as spaces and carriage returns on a typewriter, and includes keys AZ, O to 9. Various symbols and various function command keys are arranged, and the line! It is input to the arithmetic control circuit 2 via l. 2-piece arithmetic control circuit, a read-only memory that converts microinstruction information for sequential control into digital signals, stores it, converts it, and discriminates the information, an arithmetic unit that performs arithmetic processing according to the information from the read-only memory, and numerical data. It consists of a group of registers that hold the data, an adder for performing calculations, and a control section for performing other controls. Reference numeral 6 denotes a conversion circuit for the detection signal obtained from the printing section 4, which processes various information from the printing section 4 in the arithmetic control circuit 2 and outputs it to the recalculation control circuit 2. 5Fi printing m 4 tA-drive circuit, line from arithmetic control circuit 2! The print section drive signal outputted via the converter is amplified to the print section drive level.

When the battery voltage is V) yx, the printing section 4Fi is operating normally, but when the battery voltage ■ decreases and becomes V-mwx, the voltage 11 is a value unique to each type of printing section, so adjust it appropriately for each type. It is preferable that the power supply 8, the Zener diode 9, and the voltage comparator circuit 7 are integrated with the printing section 4, and the whole forms a printing unit.

line! When a voltage drop signal is sent to the arithmetic and control circuit 2 via 4, the arithmetic and control circuit 2 separates the print head (not shown) of the printing unit 4 that is in contact with the printing paper from the 4-character paper during printing. After that, a signal t5 is outputted to the printing section 4 through the in-J's drive circuit 5 so as to execute a return operation of the carriage (not shown) of the printing section 4. In this way, the carriage returns during printing, allowing the user to know that the battery voltage has decreased.

Note that the same data may be used when the voltage drop signal is applied via the line 14 or when the carriage return key is input from the keyboard 1. Alternatively, the carriage return direction may be reversed so that the carriage stops and moves at a position opposite to the home position.
