Worms are cultivated in large quantities and sold commercially as feed for farmed fish and poultry, as well as fishing bait for river fish and the like. Traditionally, we have provided these worms to retailers and customers. The worms were placed in a container containing pulp dregs, cottonseed dregs, compost, etc. as bedding material. However, such conventional flooring materials have a foul odor, are hard, and become sticky when soaked with water, causing moisture spots, making them difficult to handle, and causing worms to clump together in one place. There are drawbacks, but also the length of time that worms can be stored in a healthy state.
It lasted only two weeks. The inventor of the present invention aimed to improve the shortcomings of such conventional flooring materials, to create a flooring material that is easy to handle, allows worms to be evenly dispersed in the flooring material, and allows the worms to be stored in a healthy state for a long period of time. As a result of extensive research in order to develop the invention, it was discovered that activated sludge, which is an industrial waste, should be used as a flooring material to sawdust or powdered paper waste, and the present invention was achieved. This is a flooring material for storing worms, which is characterized by mixing activated sludge with sawdust-like or powdery paper waste.

As the paper waste of the present invention, sawdust-like or powder-like paper waste generated in the process of manufacturing various paper products is used. For example, sawdust-like paper waste generated when paper tubes are cut in the process of manufacturing paper tubes is suitable for use as the flooring material of the present invention. In this case, it is preferable that the paper waste contains a sizing agent because it imparts appropriate hygroscopicity to the flooring material. Moisture content plays a very important role in the inhabitation of worms, and in the case of the flooring material of the present invention, it is desirable that the flooring material contains 50 to 90% water by weight throughout the seasons. By setting the moisture content to 50 to 90% by weight, it is possible to make the sawdust-like or powdery paper waste into a state in which the worms K can be easily eaten and to maintain the living environment of the worms in an optimal state.

Furthermore, activated sludge is mixed into this paper waste as a nutrient source (nitrogen source) for the worms. The amount of activated sludge added is preferably 5 to 40% by weight. If the amount added is too large, it will cause the generation of a bad odor and result in a sticky storage bed.

As described above, since the storage flooring material of the present invention uses paper waste in the form of sawdust or powder, it is bulky, contains good air, generates little decomposition gas, and can contain an appropriate amount of moisture. The worms do not weaken during storage and can maintain their vitality for a long period of over a month. Furthermore, the added activated sludge becomes a nitrogen nutrient source, and the carbon nutrient source of the paper waste is separated from the worms. This allows the worms to maintain their nutritional balance, keep their color shiny, and store them in a well-nourished, fat state.

Furthermore, since the flooring material of the present invention is mainly composed of paper waste, it does not have a bad odor, is bulky and fluffy, does not become sticky or have moisture spots when it absorbs moisture, and has a good appearance. It's in good condition and doesn't feel dirty. In addition, the worms do not clump together in the flooring material and are evenly distributed. Therefore, if the flooring material of the present invention is placed in a perforated synthetic resin film bag and worms are placed in the bag for storage, it will not give fishermen a feeling of disgust due to bad odor or uncleanness. Also, since the worms are uniformly dispersed, it is easy to take out when used, making it extremely suitable for use as fishing bait.

In addition, when the flooring material of the present invention is used, it is also possible to store and multiply worms.
