A rotating transverse imaging device has an X-ray tube and a film placed opposite to each other with the subject in between, and rotates the X-ray tube and film along the outer periphery of the subject, for example, with the subject's body axis as the center of rotation. In this case, the X-ray beam emitted from the X-ray tube is effectively applied to the film, and the X-ray image of the cross section of the subject is obtained by moving the film. In order to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation, an irradiation field narrowing device is installed to match the shape of the film.

Conventionally, this irradiation field diaphragm device has generally been constructed so that the radiation opening of the X-ray tube has an aperture plane that intersects at right angles to the center line of the radiation flux.

Furthermore, this aperture device is configured to rotate around the subject in conjunction with the X-ray tube, and the size of the aperture surface of the aperture device does not depend on the shape of the lesion on the subject, but at least on the size of the film. The settings must be adjusted accordingly.

Therefore, even if the lesion size is small, the aperture of the aperture device must be made large to match the shape of the film, which exposes the subject to more radiation than necessary.
