Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a high-order device and to improve the efficiency of an information processing system, by using a substitute control adaptor to accept actuation although the control adaptor of one side has a fault. CONSTITUTION:A selecting circuit 25 for control adaptor A selects a control adaptor A3 and a driver 5 through a low-order interface circuit 24. If the adaptor A3 has a fault, the actuation of the device 5 has an abnormal completion. When an error detecting circuit 23 detects the abnormal completion, the circuit 23 reports the abnormal completion to an upper device 1 from a high-order interface circuit 21 and through an error reporting circuit 22. At the same time, the circuit 23 actuates an adaptor switch circuit 27. Then a selecting circuit 26 for control adaptor B selects a control adaptor B4 and the driver 5 through the circuit 24.

(b) Prior art and problems When a host device starts up a drive device of an input/output subsystem consisting of a control device, a control adapter, and a drive device, the host device specifies the control device, control adapter, and drive device. and start it. FIG. 1 shows an example of the configuration of an input/output subsystem. Two control adapters are provided for one drive device. Conventionally, when the host device 1 starts up the drive device 5 or 6, for example, the host device 1 specifies and starts the control device 2, control adapter A3, and drive device 5 or 6, but if the control adapter A3 If the control adapter B4 is out of order, the startup ends abnormally even though the control adapter B4 is present, so the host device l had to specify the control adapter B4 and restart it. If we explain the above input/output subsystem using, for example, a magnetic disk subsystem, the host device 1 is a channel of the central processing unit, and the control device 2
is a magnetic disk control device, control adapter A3 and control adapter B4 are magnetic disk control adapters, drive device 5,
6 corresponds to a magnetic disk device.

(C) Object of the Invention In order to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks, the object of the present invention is to improve the efficiency of the information processing system by having the control device detect a fault in the control adapter and switch it over, thereby preventing the restart of the host device. An object of the present invention is to provide a control adapter switching method in an output subsystem.

(e) Embodiment of the invention FIG. 2 shows a circuit diagram showing an embodiment of the invention.
This is a diagram. This circuit is implemented in the control device 2 shown in FIG. When the host device 1 specifies the control device 2, control adapter A3, and drive device 5 and starts the drive device 5, the signal that has passed through the host interface circuit 21 of the control device 2 passes through the adapter switching circuit 27 to the control adapter switching circuit. Operate 25. The control adapter A selection circuit 25 selects the control adapter A3 and the drive device 5 through the lower interface circuit 24. If the control adapter A3 is out of order here, the activation of the drive device 5 ends abnormally as described above. When the error detection circuit 23 detects the abnormal termination through the lower interface circuit 24.

The error detection circuit 23 sends a report from the upper level interface circuit 21 to the higher level device l through the error reporting circuit 22, and also operates the adapter switching circuit 27 to switch the control adapter B.
Using the selection circuit 26, the control adapter B selection circuit 26 selects the control adapter B4 through the lower interface circuit 24.
By selecting zero or more of the drive device 5 and the drive device 5, it is possible to automatically prevent a malfunctioning control adapter from being used in the input/output subsystem.
