In a device for guiding a step-fed drill by a guide bushing, a cylinder is disposed parallel to the drill, and a bushing support member to which a guide bushing is attached is fixed to the front part of the piston 30 of the cylinder. The supply pressure switching valve provided in the cylinder is connected with a switching operation means for moving the piston rod to a forward position, a backward position, and a free state, and at the beginning of machining, the piston rod is set to the forward position and the guide bush is placed in the workpiece. In the middle stage of machining, the piston rod is placed in a retracted position and the guide bushing guides the middle part of the drill, and in the late stage of machining, the piston rod is set in a free state so that the guide bushing can move forward together with the drill.
