Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform reliable operations to detect and alarm a paper jam, by constituting a device such that, if a time, during which a forward end of an original passes between two sensors, located in the proximity of a reading part of an original feed path and at the downstream of the reading part, exceeds a given feed time based on a feed rate, a feed motors stops running and an alarm actuates. CONSTITUTION:A first sensor 10 detects a forward end of an original 15 supplied at a given feed rate and stops a motor 3. Then, an instrument at a receiving side verifies for and against receipt, and if pros on the receipt are verified, a timer and the motor 3 drive to feed the original 15 at a transmitting speed. When the forward end of the original 15 is not detected by a sensor 12 although a given passage time, which is obtained by dividing a distance between the first sensor 10 and the second sensor 12 by a feed rate, has elapsed, it is decided that a jam occurs to the original 15, and the feed motor 3 stops running and an alarm activates. This permits the reliable detection and alarming of paper jam and enables to take an rapid emergency measure.

When a document to be transmitted by facsimile is fed to a reading device, the fed document may jam near the reading section and become unreadable, or may remain without being ejected from the reading section. Sixth, if such a situation occurred,
The paper jam detection method of the present invention is capable of detecting and notifying where an accident has occurred.

A document to be transmitted by facsimile or the like is taken out one by one from a document placement section by a roller or the like and sent to a reading device. At this time, a first sensor installed near the reading device searches to see if a document has been sent. The original is fed at a constant speed, read, searched by a second sensor installed in the original ejection section, and then ejected. If the second sensor does not turn on later, it is determined that there is a paper jam. Therefore, reading and feeding are stopped, and the alarm circuit is turned on to issue an alarm. Similarly, if a document passes through a portion of the first sensor, the first sensor should turn off, and after a certain period of time, the second sensor should also turn off, but if it does not turn off, it is determined that there is a problem with the ejection stacker. As in the case of a paper jam, feeding is stopped and the alarm circuit is turned on to issue an alarm.

5 and 6 are pressing members for pressing the fed original against the rollers 1 and 2; the pressing member 6 has a belt installed between the pair of rolls, and holds the original between the belt and the roller 1; The pressing member 6 is made of a roller and nip the document between it and the roller 2. 7 is a guide for feeding the original, 8 is a light source for reading the original, and 9 is a reading device. The first sensor 10 is provided close to the document reading area 11, and the second sensor 1
Reference numeral 2 is provided at a position where the original is sent out from the original sending roller 2. First sensor 10. The signals of both the second sensor 12 and the second sensor 12 are input to the control device 13, and a signal is output from the control device 13 to the drive unit 14 of the motor 3, so that the motor 3 is driven.

Now, when trying to send the original 16 placed on the original document holder 16, one of the originals is fed by the original feeding roller 1 along the guide 7 at the paper feeding speed, and the leading edge of the original is placed in the first position.
When the first sensor 10 is reached, the first sensor 1o is turned on (see FIG. 2).

As a result, the motor stops, a handshake is performed to check whether the receiving device is capable of receiving data, and upon completion of the handshake, the timer is reset, the motor is started, and the document is fed at the transmission speed. And the first
If the second sensor 12 does not turn on even after the time ``/el'', which is the interval z1 between the sensor 1o and the second sensor 12 divided by the yarn feeding speed srl, the first sensor 10 and the second sensor 12 If a paper jam occurs between the paper feed roller 2 or the document is not sent out from the feed roller 2 and does not reach the second sensor 12 due to some other failure, the motor is stopped and the alarm device is activated. By removing the jammed original, the next original will be fed normally.

Note that if the document stops in the ejection device after the last edge of the document has passed through the reading device, that is, after the document has been sent, the first sensor 10 is turned off due to the passage of the original, and the time required is obtained by dividing the length between the first and second sensors by the original ejection speed until the end edge of the original passes the second sensor 12. Even if time passes, the second sensor 1
If 2 is not turned off, the document feeding motor is stopped and an alarm is set, so that even if an inconvenience occurs when the document is ejected, it can be known.

In the method of the present invention, as described above, the second sensor is detected within a preset time required for the document that has passed through the reading device to reach the second sensor located at a predetermined distance from the reading device. Since the alarm device is activated when the sensor does not reach the sensor, it is possible to check whether each document sent to the reading device is ejected from the reading device or not, in other words, whether the next document can be sent to the reading device. Therefore, it is possible to immediately detect the occurrence of an accident in that section and prevent paper jams from occurring.
