PURPOSE:To make picture image clear even at high-speed printing, by a method wherein guard drop is decreased when printing mode is changed from final mode to draft mode. CONSTITUTION:A printing data generating circuit 1, a printing data converting circuit 2, distortion correcting circuits 3,4, a mode changing switch SW1 and a clock selecting switch SW2 are installed. In high-speed printing mode, the switch SW1 is connected to contact a and the switch SW2 is to contact c; in normal printing mode, the switch SW1 is connected to contact b and the switch SW2 is to contact d. In the high-speed printing mode and normal printing mode, quard drop is decreased without thinning the character matrix lines as in prior art, thereby clear printing is possible as shown in the figure.

するようにしたものである。
