Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable automatic adjustment to a visual angle position, by providing a control circuit for liquid crystal driving voltage which stores the data of the driving voltages of each liquid crystal panel in such a way as to locate the observer's visual point position within the optimum visual angle position of each liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:A D/A converter 6 for supplying of voltage operated with a storage circuit ROM7 is connected to a driving circuit 3 for driving each liquid crystal panel 1. The observer's visual point position signal A and the detection signal from a temp. sensor 8 which detects the ambient temp. of a liquid crystal display 2 are inputted to the circuit 7. The horizontal distance l0 from the obsever's visual point position up to the liquid crystal panels and the distances l1-l4 between the respective liqui crystal panels are constant. Thus, if the height H of the observer's visual point is determined, the visual angles phi1-phi5 of the liquid crystal panels are determined; therefore, the data of such driving voltages at which the angles phi1-phi5 attain the optimum visual angles of the respective liquid crystal panels are stored beforehand in the circuit 7. In the stage of use, the signal A corresponding to the height H of the observer's visual point position is inputted to said circuit and the optimum driving voltages are supplied to the respective panels 1.

The viewing angle characteristics of such a liquid crystal panel change depending on the liquid crystal drive voltage. In a liquid crystal display device consisting of liquid crystal panels having multiple viewing angle characteristics, Fi is set so that the optimal viewing angle position of each liquid crystal panel coincides with the viewer's viewpoint. It is necessary to adjust the driving voltage of each liquid crystal panel so that the viewer can observe the display on all the liquid crystal panels simultaneously.

(3) Prior Art and Problems FIG. 1 shows a conventional configuration of a liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal panel having multiple viewing angle characteristics. Each liquid crystal panel 1 of a liquid crystal display device 2 consisting of five liquid crystal panels 1 having viewing angle characteristics is connected to a display control circuit 5 via a drive circuit 3. The display control circuit 5 sends a drive signal to each drive circuit 3 and a display data signal bf to be displayed on each liquid crystal panel 1.

In a liquid crystal display device having such a configuration, in order to ensure that the viewing angles φ1 to φ6 of each liquid crystal panel 1 are optimal viewing angles with respect to the viewpoint of an observer at a height H, five panels corresponding to each liquid crystal panel 1 are required. The variable resistors 4 must be adjusted individually, and the troublesome viewing angle adjustment operation must be repeated every time the height H of the viewpoint changes.

(6) Embodiment of the Invention FIG. 2 is a block diagram of a liquid crystal display device according to the invention. Components that are the same as or correspond to those in the device shown in FIG. 1 are designated by the same numbers and their explanations will be omitted. A voltage supply D/A converter 6 operating through a memory circuit (ROM) 7'ft is connected to the drive circuit 3 for driving each liquid crystal panel 1t. Memory circuit 7
An observer's viewpoint position signal A and a detection signal from a temperature sensor 8 that detects the ambient temperature of the liquid crystal display device 2 are input to the input terminal 1 . Horizontal distance Jlo from the observer's viewpoint position to the liquid crystal panel and distance between each liquid crystal panel1. ~L4 is constant. Therefore, once the height H of the observer's viewpoint is determined, the viewing angles φl to φS of each liquid crystal panel are determined. Visual angle φl at this time
Drive voltage data such that ~φi is the optimum viewing angle for each liquid crystal panel is stored in advance in the memory circuit 7. During use, since the signal A corresponding to the height H of the observer's viewpoint position is inputted, the memory circuit 7 sets a driving voltage for each liquid crystal panel so that the optimum viewing angle and the viewpoint position of each liquid crystal panel coincide with each other.
