Abstract

PURPOSE:To clean heads periodically and automatically by providing a counter which is set with the times of press-contact to clean the heads in a flexible magnetic disc device. CONSTITUTION:A flexible magneic disc 3 used for a flexible magnetic disc device has data recording regions 4 and a head cleaning track 5. A head 7 is cleaned with the cleaning member of the track 5 in the starting stage of the magnetic disc device. The times at which the head 7 is brought into press-contact with the disc 3 are stored a head load counter 9, and when the optional number of head loading is attained, the head is moved to the track 5 by the output thereof, and the head 7 is brought into press-contact with the cleaning member, whereby the head is cleaned. The head loading is accomplished by a head loading 8 and the moving of the head 7 by a tracking part 8.

Flexible Disk Recording System Due to its ease of operation, it is used in a wide range of locations such as general offices as a storage device for office computers and other devices. One of the characteristics of such a disk recording/reproducing device is that it is inexpensive, and therefore the magnetic head and the vicinity of the flexible magnetic disk have a simple structure to prevent foreign matter from entering. Therefore, in most flexible disk recording and reproducing devices, foreign matter such as dust is likely to adhere to the head. When the foreign matter adheres to the head, the performance of the head is significantly degraded, causing erroneous reading. Furthermore, since the head must be moved to an accurate recording position, it cannot be disassembled for head cleaning. For this purpose, a flexible disk exclusively used for head cleaning has been devised, but this is inconvenient due to the cut-off point. - First, use of the disk recording and reproducing device must be temporarily suspended for head cleaning. Second, the operator must determine whether foreign matter is attached to the head. Furthermore, if cleaning is to be performed periodically, it is necessary to remember the time the disk recording/playback device has been used.

7 On the outer circumference of the outermost track on the lexiple magnetic disk surface? A head cleaning section is provided by attaching a piece of material, such as a synthetic resin tape, which has a rough surface and is softer than the material of the head, about the same thickness as the lexiple magnetic disk. Further, the 7-lexiple disk recording/reproducing device is provided with a counter for storing the number of times the head is pressed against the 7-lexiple magnetic disk, and the number of times the head is pressed against the 7-lexiple magnetic disk is periodically and automatically set. After starting the disk, a counter is decremented by 1 each time the head comes into pressure contact with the flexible magnetic disk, and when it reaches 0, the head is moved to the head cleaning section of the flexible magnetic disk and brought into pressure contact. Also, when starting up the disk, the head is first moved to the cleaning section for cleaning.

Most of the foreign matter such as dust attached to the surface of the magnetic disk 3 is removed by the liner 2 attached to the inner surface of the jacket 1. However, some small dust or particles that are so strongly adhered that they cannot be removed by the liner 2 continue to rotate with the magnetic disk 3, and when the head comes into pressure contact with the magnetic disk in response to a write or read command, such foreign particles may adhere to the track. If so, some of it will adhere to the head, significantly reducing the performance of the head. In the present invention, the liner described above is used to periodically clean the head so that foreign matter such as dirt that cannot be removed by the liner does not adhere to the head and deteriorate the performance of the head.

A cleaning track 5 is provided on the outer periphery of the machine, and is pressed into contact with the cleaning track 5 by the reed and head load section 6 at the time of startup. The cleaning track 5 is a part of the magnetic disk 3, but it is different from other parts, such as synthetic resin tape, which does not damage the head, and has a rough surface and a thickness that makes it possible to remove foreign substances. It is made up of the same amount of material. Therefore, when the disk device is started up, the head is cleaned by the cleaning member of the cleaning track 5, so that writing, reading, and erasing operations can be performed in the best condition. In addition, the head load counter 9 stores the number of times the head is pressed against the magnetic disk 3, and when the desired number of head loads is reached, the head is moved to the cleaning track 5 by the output and the head is pressed against the cleaning member. Then perform head cleaning. The thickness of the cleaning member including the magnetic disk in the head cleaning section 5 is not extremely thick compared to other magnetic disk sections.
The resistance between the cleaning track 5 and the cleaning track 5 can be removed by using the conventional liner 2, and the foreign matter adhering to the cleaning track 5 can be removed by the liner 2.

In addition to storing the number of head loads and periodically cleaning the head in the head load counter 9 as in the above embodiment, a data comparison section is provided to check for a drop in the output level of read data, so that the read data falls below a certain level. Another method is to perform head cleaning at nine o'clock in the summer. In addition to this embodiment, the head cleaning section may also be installed on the inner periphery of the innermost track 4-a, or perpendicularly to the tracks 4-, 4-s, 4-1...4-. The setup is to clean the head every time the magnetic disk rotates.
