Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain long service life and to prevent generation of friction resistance at the normal state by providing a cleaner in parallel with the moving direction of an optical head at a part wider than a recording/reproducing area of a medium, contacting the cleaner onto the recording medium as required by a drive means so as to apply cleaning thereby preventing flaw onto the surface of the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A high density recording medium 1 is engaged with a medium drive spindle 5 and fixed by a hub 6. Then the spindle 5 is driven and the medium is turned in the direction of arrow 6. Then the cleaner 3 is driven by a driver 4, the cleaning member 8 contacts the surface of the medium 1 to apply cleaning. The size of the cleaner cleaning area 12 of the cleaning member 8 is decided to clean a wider part than the recording/reproducing area 13. Thus, the time when the medium and the cleaner are in contact is short and the medium and the cleaner are not contacted in a normal state.

For example, in a high-density recording/reproducing device such as an optical disc, if there is dust or deposits on the disc surface, errors such as signal loss or write failure may occur. Particularly during recording, it is possible that erroneous data may be written, and the consequences of this are serious.

In addition, even if the disk medium is stored in a cartridge or the like, the cartridge has a hole for engaging the internal disk with the rotating spindle of the device, and a hole for reading and writing for access. A hole is required for the head to fit, and it is difficult to seal the cartridge.

Therefore, conventionally, optical disc! ! ! In a two-position system, a method is known in which a nonwoven fabric or the like is pasted inside the case and the case is constantly brought into contact with the medium for cleaning. However, according to this method, since the optical disk medium and the cleaner are always in contact with each other, there are problems such as scratches on the surface of the medium and the life span of the cleaner, and the occurrence of stiffness resistance due to contact between the cleaner and the disk medium. There is. A known example of this type is the one described in JP-A-57-71528.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a cleaner in a part wider than the recording/reproducing area of a disk recording medium and parallel to the moving direction of an optical head for recording/reproducing, and when necessary by a driving means. Cleaning is performed by only bringing the cleaner into contact with the recording medium.
