Abstract

PURPOSE:To form desired beautiful finish patterns easily on the surface of a substrate by locating a conductive pattern mask which applies the desired patterns on the substrate between the surface of the substrate and a painting gun and painting powder paint on said surface electrostatically. CONSTITUTION:A conductive pattern mask 12 that applies desired patterns on the surface of a substrate 10 is located between the surface of the substrate 10 and a gun 11 for painting of powder paint. Powder paint 13 is sprayed onto the surface of the substrate 10 by the gun 11 and is stuck through the aperture parts 14 of the mask 12 onto the surface of the substrate 10. The paint 13 stuck on the surface of the substrate 10 is baked by ordinary methods, whereby a desired patterned paint film 15 is formed on the surface of the substrate 10. For example, iron, copper, aluminum, lead, and their alloys are used for the mask 12, and the distance between the mask and the substrate 10 is generally about 0.1-20mm..

2. Description of the Related Art It is common practice to apply paint to the surface of an article in order to give it aesthetic appeal. In order to impart such aesthetic qualities to articles, various designs (patterns) are applied to the surfaces of articles in addition to mere colors. Hammertone paint is known as a typical example of a paint that provides such a pattern, and is already commercially available.

Another method for forming a patterned coating film is to place a material having a pattern that gives a desired pattern on the surface of the object to be coated, apply a solvent-based paint over it, and then remove the patterned material. A method of printing may also be considered, but this method has the problem that it becomes unsightly due to the accumulation of sag, or that the desired pattern cannot be obtained.

The present inventors have conducted extensive studies on a method that can form a desired pattern on the surface of an object to be coated, without the above-mentioned conventional problems. As a result, a pattern mask made of a conductive material that gives the desired pattern is placed between the surface of the object to be coated and the paint gun, and a desired beautiful finished pattern is formed on the surface of the object to be coated (2). I found out that it can be done.

FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a method for forming a patterned powder coating film according to the present invention. A pattern mask 1 made of a conductive material and having a pattern that gives a desired pattern to the surface of the object to be coated is located between the paint gun 11 and the paint gun 11 for use.
2, apply the powder paint 13 from the paint gun 11 according to the usual method.
Spray onto the surface of the object to be coated. As schematically shown in FIG. 1, the powder paint 13 passes through the opening 14 of the pattern mask 12, reaches the surface of the object to be coated, and adheres thereto. In the next step (3), the powder coating adhering to the surface of the object to be coated 10 is baked in accordance with a conventional method to form a desired pattern coating [15] on the surface of the object to be coated 10, as shown in the lower part of FIG. be done.

The powder coating applied to the surface of the object in the method of the present invention can be any powder coating commonly used in the past, such as epoxy powder coating, acrylic powder coating, polyester powder coating, etc. Thermosetting powder coatings such as paints, thermoplastic powder coatings such as polyethylene powder coatings, polyamide powder coatings, etc. can be suitably used. If a solvent-based paint is used, the viscosity of the paint during setting and/or baking is low, so it may sag or the pattern may disappear, making it impossible to obtain a beautiful finished pattern. However, when powder coatings are used, this phenomenon does not occur because they do not contain any solvent and the viscosity during baking is much higher than that of solvent-based coatings, resulting in extremely beautiful patterns. It is possible.

In the method of the present invention, the pattern mask placed between the surface of the object to be coated and the coating gun can be used by forming a pattern on a suitable material in advance so as to obtain any desired pattern. FIG. 2 shows some examples of patterns formed on the surface of the object to be coated.

According to the present invention, it is possible to coat not only patterns such as grids, drainboards, diamonds, triangles, rectangles, and stars, but also objects containing pictures and codes such as traffic signs. It can be formed on the surface of objects. It should be noted that what is shown in FIG. 2 merely shows some typical patterns formed on the surface of a coated object according to the method of the present invention, and the scope of the present invention is not limited to these embodiments. Well, it goes without saying.

The material used as a pattern mask in the method of the invention must be a conductive material, such as metal materials such as iron, copper, aluminum, lead and alloys thereof. However, it is suitable for use in terms of conductivity and processability. Other materials such as plastic, wood, and glass can also be used.

When carrying out the method of the present invention, the interval (distance) between the object to be coated 10 and the pattern mask 12 (5) varies depending on the pattern to be formed, the size of the object to be coated, etc., but is generally 0.1 - A range of 20 days is preferred. This interval is 0
.. If the drop is less than 1 drop, it is undesirable because it will be difficult to maintain the adjustment due to unevenness on the surface of the object to be coated. On the other hand, if the distance between the surface of the object to be coated and the pattern mask exceeds 20 drops, the paint will wrap around from the back side of the mask. This makes it difficult to form the desired pattern on the surface of the object to be coated, which is undesirable. When finishing the object with one coat of powder paint, it is best to apply a pattern mask first, then apply the mask and finish. It is also possible to apply the paint at wide intervals so that a thin layer of paint can electrostatically wrap around the mask portion of the object to be painted.

As explained above, according to the present invention, it is possible to form a beautiful coating film with a desired pattern on the surface of the object to be coated, such as the exterior of home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, gates, fences, and doors. It can be suitably used for painting handles, switchboards, toys, etc.
