Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the movement of installing place of a terminal device easy and to protect human eyes from optical signals, by performing communication between an optical transmitter/receiver provided at the lower part of a terminal device and an optical transmitter/receiver provided on the wall of a room by means of optical signals. CONSTITUTION:The lower part of a terminal device T installed at an arbitrary position of an office 1 is provided with an optical transmitter/receiver SR. The lower part of a wall surface 3 of the office 1 is provided with many satellites S1-S9 including a light emitting element and a photodetector. Communication is performed by using a diffused light between the SR and the satellites S1- S9. Since the optical path of the light is formed along the floor, no light is made incident to a man in error. Further, even if an optical path of a certain part is intercepted by a pedestrian, the optical communication is continued with the optical paths of the other parts.

In general terminal equipment, the original fiber cable and power cord are required for this purpose, but in offices, the layout is frequently changed, and the arrangement of the optical fiber cable and power cord is re-arranged each time such a change is made. For this reason, an optical space propagation method for optical communication through space has been developed. This method eliminates the need for at least the wiring of optical fiber cables to the terminal equipment, making it easier to respond to layout changes.
) Prior art and its problems Conventionally, the above-mentioned optical space propagation system has been considered to have the configuration shown in FIG. That is, a satellite s including a light emitting element and a light receiving element is installed on the ceiling 1 of an office, and a terminal T is installed on the floor 2.
Optical communication is carried out between the optical transceivers SR.
