Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a selecting and changing-over mechanism and contrive to reduce the size and weight of a printer, by a method wherein the holding member of a selecting mechanism for changing over the output of a converting mechanism is maintained in one of two stable conditions, and selection of a type and printing are conducted by alternately changing over the first and second outputs from one to the other. CONSTITUTION:A selecting mechanism 1 is provided with a holding member 12 for alternately catching and holding two outputs from a converting mecahnism, and is provided also with an operating member 20 for maintaining the holding member 12 in either one of a stand-by condition and an operative condition. The condition wherein the holding member 12 is transferred from the stand-by condition into the operative condition by an electromagnetic triggering member is maintained by the operating member, the holding member 12 is returned from the operative condition to the stand-by condition by a return-driving member 11d when printing and shifting-up operations are completed on the second output side connected to a printing mechanism, the second output is caught and held again, and the holding member 12 is maintained in the stand-by condition by the operating member 20.
