Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a roll device which decreases the contact area between an ingot and rolls and decreases the quantity of removed heat by disposing small diameter rolls, which are formed with many grooved recesses and are fixed with heat insulating materials, and back up rolls in a slow cooling zone of a continuous casting installation. CONSTITUTION:Many grooved recesses 13 are formed on the outside circumferential surfaces of small diameter rolls 11 mounted to a frame 12, and heat insulating members 14 consisting of thin walled chromium steel plates, etc. are fixed in the bottoms of the recesses 13. Backup rolls 15 are mounted in the frame 12 so as to contact with the rolls 11 to prevent the deflection of the rolls 11 generated by the reduced diameters.
