Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain protective films which prevent the corrosion of a magnetic film, the abrasion of the magnetic film and a head and do not peel from the magnetic film by providing plural layers of the protective films having different functions on a magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin is coated on the top surface of a magnetic layer 14, whereby the 1st protective layer 16 is formed. The epoxy resin has high adhesion to the layer 14 and prevents the corrosion of the layer 14. Stearic acid is coated on the top surface of the layer 16, whereby the 2nd protective film 18 is formed. The stearic acid decreases the friction with objects which come into sliding contact therewith. The adhesion of the layer 16 and the layer 18 is good, and the layers 16 and 18 constitute the protective film 20 of a magnetic recording medium 10. The respective thicknesses of the layers 16, 18 are 100-150 angstrom.
