Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare the titled composition having remarkably improved transparency, by adding a specific disubstituted benzylidene sorbitol in combination with a I-group metal salt of an aliphatic organic acid to a propylene polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is prepared by compounding (A) 100pts.wt. of a propylene polymer having a melt flow rate of 0.1-100g/10min with (B) 0.01-0.5pt.wt. of the compound of formula (R is 1-8C alkyl, 1-8C alkoxy or halogen, m and n are 0-3 and m+n>=1), e.g. 1,3,2,4-di(p-methylbenzylidene)sorbitol and (C) 0.001-0.3pt.wt. of a I-group metal salt of a 8-30C aliphatic organic acid. The effect is remarkable in crystalline propylene copolymers.

In order to improve this drawback, conventional methods of adding various nucleating agents to papermaking have been attempted. Known examples of nucleating agents include aluminum salts of aromatic carboxylic acids, aromatic carboxylic acids, aromatic metal phosphates, and condensates of polyhydric alcohols and aldehydes.

Besides, 1,3,2,4-dibenzylidene sorbitol and di-substituted benzylidene sorbitol are nucleating agents that have a large effect on improving transparency (% Kosho 55-1246).
0, JP-A-56-30449, JP-A-56-30450. (Refer to Publications No. 56-45934), this product is expensive, and if used in large quantities, it will cause problems with bleeding.
Establishment of a technology that improves transparency with as little addition as possible is a necessary issue. The present invention aims to provide a solution to this issue. This method was developed based on the discovery that by blending benzylidene sorbitol with a specific fatty acid metal salt, a composition with significantly improved transparency than the original method could be obtained.

The effect of the present invention is significantly exhibited in crystalline materials. Specifically, for example, in addition to a homopolymer of propylene, a majority (preferably 700 parts by weight or more) of propylene and other a-olefins (e.g., ethylene, butene-1,4-methylpentene-1, hexene-1 etc.) are suitable. If the MFR is other than the above, it will result in poor molding and is not preferred.
