PURPOSE:To simplify temperature control and to reduce the consumption of electric power by simultaneously turning on plural heat sources of a fixing device at the time of warming-up and, after the warming-up, controlling only the heat source to obtain a constant fixing temperature. CONSTITUTION:When a power saving switch 14 attached to the body 1 of an electronic copying machine is turned on, plural heat sources 2 accomodated in a fixing roller 4 are simultaneously turned on, heating the fixing roller 4 for a short time. When a temperature detector 6 detects that the surface temperature of the fixing roller 4 reaches a fixing temperature T1, respective heat sources 2, 3 are turned off and then only one heat source 2 is turned on/off under control, controlling the surface temperature of the fixing roller 4 at the fixed fixing temperature T1. As compared with a controlling method for controlling a heat source with higher heat capacitor, this method makes it possible to attain simple and highly accurate temperature control.
