Abstract
PURPOSE: To concentrate fractionally tocotrienols useful as an antioxidant, etc. efficiently from fats and oils, by dissolving the fats and oils or oil residue, etc. obtained in their purification in an aprotic solvent, subjecting the solution to ion exchange treatment by an anion exchange resin.
CONSTITUTION: Fats and oils, e.g., palm oil, coconut butter, oil residue obtained in their purification, distillation residue or distillate in deodorizing treatment of dark oil, are dissolved in a common aprotic solvent, e.g., n-hexane, etc. The solution is subjected to ion exchange treatment conventionally using an anion exchange resin, preferably Amberlite A-26 type anion exchange resin Cl type which is treated with an alkali aqueous solution and converted into -OH type, so that tocotrienols are adsorbed selectively and separated. If necessary, fatty acids in the fats and oils are esterified, they are prevented from being adsorbed on the ion exchange resin.
