Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an α, β-unsaturated fatty acid having improving actions on lipid metabolism, by extracting whole parts of corbicula, its fleshy part, or a concentrate of its soaked solution of water prepared by extracting it with water while being hot with a nonproton solvent, followed by removing the solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Whole parts of corbicula or its fleshy part is used directly or after it is cut into pieces it is used. (i) The corbicular is extracted with water in the vicinity of neutrality while it is hot, its soaked solution of water is concentrated, and the concentrate and/or separated fleshy part is extracted with a nonproton solvent, e.g., n-hexane, etc. or (ii) the corbicula is extracted with the nonproton solvent directly. The solvent is removed from the prepared extracted solution, which is purified if necessary, to giva a compound shown by the formula (n is 10, 12, or 14) useful for preventing and remedying liver disorder, having improving effect on lipid metabolism. The purification is carried out using column chromatography and elution is preferably done in the order of kexane, benzene, ethyl ether, and methanol.
