Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily form a battery separator by mixing and sheet-making glass and thermoplastic organic fibers at a special rate and forming them into a bag type separator by means of the heat sealing method. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber at its average diameter of 0.5mu and a polyethylene fiber at its average diameter of 20mu are mixed within the range where the quantity of organic fibers becomes 25-50wt% for the total amount of both fibers and uniformly dispersed in water at a proportion of one part for 100pts. of water. They are sheet-made by a sheet-making device. A small width belt-like mat is formed by dehydrating and drying them, cut into a desired length, bent, and overlapped. A bag type separator is obtained by thermally fusing the circumference by means of the high frequency. Therefore, it functions as a micro- porous separator and a retainer glass mat and enables heat sealing. As a result, the bag type separator can easily be formed.
