Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit direct conveying of ingots at high temps. without the degration in their internal quality by cooling locally the prescribed opposite upper and lower positions of the ingot from a continuous casting process to a rolling process, and guiding the same while allowing beam-like shell to form in the ingot.
CONSTITUTION: A gas passage 3 and a liquid passage 4 concentrical to this are provided in each conveying roll 2 for an ingot 1. The roll surface and the passages 3, 4 are communicated with fluid injection holes 5, and the gas branching and injecting pipes 7 communicating with and branched from the passage 3 open in the holes 5. Recesses 17 are provided on the roll surface except near the holes 5, and it is preferable to form these in a concave reflection mirror type. If the ingot 1 is cooled by supplying gas and fluid to the passages 3, 4, and injecting fluid through the holes 5 in this way, a beam-like part 19 of rigidity higher than that of the shell 18 in the ingot 1 is formed stably with good efficiency in said shell. Thereby, the bulging produced between the rolls 2 during the guiding and conveying of the ingot in the continuous casting machine is effectively suppressed.
