Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce man-hour of transportation and grinding as well as heating time for rolling operation by performing before gas cutting the grinding of both upper and lower surfaces of slabs produced from a cntinuous casting unit. CONSTITUTION:A short sub-swing-arm 29 is suspended from an internal frame 4 of the car parallel to a main-swing-arm 8, and the extended end 38 of a connecting rod 30 and the rear end 37 of a spindle 9 are connected through a cylinder 14. The above constitution provides a nearly linear movement of a grindstone 5. This linear motion combined with a synchronized return mechanism which provides a displacement opposite to the slab moving direction by means of a cylinder 15 accomplishes a series of X-shape motion. Since the grinding operation proceeds perpendicularly to the slab moving direction by this X-shape motion, the whole surface of the slab can be dressed by continuous repetition of this motion.
