Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the β-crystal, having improved thermal stability, reduced aggregation characteristics at high temperatures and various fastnesses without causing uneven dyeing, by heating the α-crystal of the titled dye in a specific aqueous medium containing a specific additive under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A dye cake consisting of the α-crystal (amorphous) of a benzothiazolylazo dye derivative expressed by the formula (R is 5W9C alkyl) is mixed with water in an amount of usually 2W10 times that of the cake to give a slurry (A). (B) A surfactant in a concentration ≥0.01% in a solution, e.g. sodium lignin sulfonate, or (C) an amine, alcohol, ketone, ether and/or a derivative thereof in a concentration ≥1% in the solution or both are added to the slurry (A), and adjusted to a pH≥8 with an alkali agent, e.g. NaOH, and the concentration of the inorganic salt in the solution is adjusted to ≥0.1%. The adjusted solution is then heated to 40°C or above preferably for 1hr or longer to give the β-crystal.
