Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform multi-tonal recording with the lesser number of running times as well as shorten the setting time of tonal data by a method in which driving signals of different pulse widths are set up for every running and then running is separately selected according to the concentrations of picture elements.
CONSTITUTION: In the first place, a driving signal having a given peak value is supplied over the time J1' for corresponding recording elements by the first running, whereby a recording of a record concentration d1' is made. In the second running, a driving signal is supplied over the time J2' for the corresponding recording element, whereby a recording of a record concentration difference d2'-d1' is made. Even in the third and fourth running, recordings of record concentration differences d4'-d2' and d8'-d4' are made alike. Thus, by combinations of J1' to J4' by a total of 4 times' recording, 8-stage tonal change can be obtained.
