Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent cracking during pipe expanding by providing projections on the inside surfaces of male dies and grooves on the outside surface of a circular conical cylinder spirally in the opposite directions of right and left, forcing in the circular conical cylinder and rotating the sectional dies of the male dies in mutually opposite directions in the male dies consisting of plural pieces of the sectional dies and the circular conical cylinder radially expanding these.
CONSTITUTION: Male dies 13 are set by being contracted with a spring 14 in contact with the nut 12 of a guide rod 10, and a pipe 30 is loaded into the dies 13. The right end of the pipe 30 is matched to the projection 16 of the dies 13 and the upper half 17U of female dies is put on and is locked by means of bolts 19 in a manner as to prevent the pipe 30 from rotating. Pressurized oil is fed to a hydraulic cylinder 4 to slide a ram 7 leftward, thereby loading a circular conical working head 8 into the internal space 15 of the dies 13. At this time, the grooves 9 provided spirally in the opposite directions of right and left on the outside surface of the head 8 and the projections 13R of the inside surface of the male dies are fitted. Further, when the pressurized oil is fed and the head 8 is slided leftward, the sectional dies 13aWc rotate right and sectional dies 13dWf rotate left, thereby sliding and radially expanding. The pipe 30 receives pressure from the male dies 13 and forms an expanded shape.
