Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize a stable method of observing and measuring degree of abrasion by a method wherein a V shaped groove formed on the attaching surface of a slider is filled with a substance optically different from the slider main body constituting material so that the wear of the sliding surface may be observed and determined with ease.
CONSTITUTION: Formed in the direction of X from the side F of the attaching surface of a slider main body 1 is a V shaped groove, which is filled by a substance that is optically different from the material constituting the slider main body 1, a copper alloy filler for a carbon made main body, for example. Increasing abrasion of the sliding surface S of the slider results in the enlargement of the exposed part of the filler 2 whose width y grows proportional to worn-away quantity z of the slider. The worn-away quantity z can be thus determined by measuring on the sliding side S the width y of the disclosed part of the filler 2, the process ensuring stable, reliable measurement.
