The hydroxycarboxylic acids exhibit a metal inhibiting effect, are stable and improve wettability. hence, they provide uniform and dense surfaces. The hydroxycarboxylic acids are tartaric acid, citric acid, malic acid, etc., and those which dissolve to a certain extent in strong acids are preferable. After Mg compounds such as MgO, MgCO2 and the like are acted with these acids, HF or its salt is acted, whereby the transparent or semi-transparent paste like cleaner is obtained.
