Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a recording liquid from being thickened during storage and solids from depositing during the storage of the recording liquid, by incorporating an adduct of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with (thio)urea into a recording liquid for use in an ink jet recording system.
CONSTITUTION: Urea or thiourea is dissoved in a solvent. Ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide are/is added to the resulting soln. in the presence of a catalyst. The mixture is subjected to an addition reaction to prepare an adduct. 0.5W 30wt% said adduct is incorporated into a recording liquid for use in an ink jet recording system to produce the desired recording liquid. (Thio)urea has an excellent effect of inhibiting thickening during the storage of the recording liquid, but itself is a solid, and has low solubility in glycols so that (thio)urea is easy to precipitate as crystal. But, since the solidifying point of said adduct is low and the adduct has excellent solubility in org. solvents, the clogging of discharge ports, etc. can be prevented.
