Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover the titled compound well, by reacting 2,2-bis(4-hydroxypolyoxyalkylenephenyl)propane with an acrylic acid, etc. in the presence of a catalyst, removing a sulfonic acid catalyst having an aromatic ring previously from the reaction solution, and neutralizing the reaction solution.
CONSTITUTION: 2,2-Bis(4-hydroxypolyoxyalkylenephenyl)propane expressed by the formula (R is H or CH3; Xa is Cl or Br; m and n are 1, 2 or 3; a is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4) is esterified with an excess acrylic acid or methacrylic acid in the presence of a sulfonic acid catalyst having an aromatic ring in an organic solvent, and the excess acid is then neutralized to give the titled compound. In the process, the catalyst, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, is previously cooled to preferably 20°C or below, deposited, filtered and separated. The remaining reaction solution is then neutralized.
EFFECT: The drying treatment is easily carried out with a low moisture content in the separated organic solvent.
