Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a photocell from direct light by providing a light shielding member in a light irradiated region on the surface of lenses which converge the transmitted and diffused light through an object to be checked. CONSTITUTION:Light 3 is irradiated from a light source 3 in a spot shape, with a sheet shaped, semi-transparent, wooden plate 1 being conveyed. Said light 3 is reflected by a scanning mirror 4 which is moved with a vertical shaft as a supporting point and the reflected light scans the single wooden plate 1 in the width direction. The transmitted light is converged into a converging fiber 6 by a pair of cylindrical lenses 5, and converted into an electrical current by the photocell 7 arranged under the fiber 6. Cracks and the like are detected by the strength of said light current. In the meantime, the light shielding member 10 is attached to the region corresponding to the scanning beam of the scanning light 8 from the scanning mirror 4 on the surface of the cylindrical lenses 5. Since the scanning light 8 is not converged into the light converging fiber 6, the damage of the photocell 7 can be prevented.
