Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove a heavy metal or the like efficienty and perfectly by using a simple apparatus by a method wherein a mercury evaporation inhibitor is added to the waste water of a refuse incinerating plant and said waste water is separated into vapor and a concentrated liquid in an evaporation and separation process and the vapor is condensed.
CONSTITUTION: A mercury evaporation inhibitor is added to the waste water of a refuse incinerating plant and, thereafter, an acid or an alkali is added thereto to adjust pH thereof to 7W8. Subsequently, the waste water after pH adjustment is introduced into an evaporation and separation process to separate the waste water into vapor and a concentrated liquid by an evaporation appratus and the mercury is remained in the concentrated liquid by the mercury evaporation inhibitor to reduce the mercury transferred to the vapor side. The separated vapor is introduced into a condenser and cooled and condensed by cooling water recirculated through a cooling tower. As the mercury evaporation inhibitor, an S-2 containing agent such as sodium sulfide, sodium hydrosulfide or the like or a commercial selective heavy metal fixing agent can be used.
