Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify and separate vitamin B12 with excellent purity industrially in an excellent yield by treating a vitamin B12 containing solution containing impurities with a specific copolymer resin having a surface area of a definite value or more.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer resin with a surface area of about 700m2/g derived from divinyl benzene, styrene or a functional derivative thereof and an aromatic multivalent unsaturated alkyl carboxylate shown by a formula wherein R is 3W 10C unsaturated alkyl residue having a C-C double bond and n is 2 or 3 is contacted with a vitamin B12 solution containing impurities. Then, the vitamin B12 is adsorbed to the resin and, thereafter, eluted with an eluting agent to obtain an active eluted fraction. Thereby, the vitamin B12 with high purity is readily separated in a high yield.
