Abstract
PURPOSE:To economize the material of a leaf spring made of fiber-reinforced plastic and reduce its cost, by making hollow the inner part of the spring near the neutral axis of bending. CONSTITUTION:When upward force acts to the central portion of a leaf spring 1 made of fiber-reinforced plastic, compressive stress is generated in the lower outer part 1d and tensile stress is generated in the upper outer part 1c. The compressive and tensile stress are absorbed by directional long fibers 3. When torsional force acts to the leaf spring 1, torsional stress is generated therein. The torsional stress is mainly absorbed by the long fibers of the outer parts of both sides.
