Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an static pressure air bearing effectively uitlizing both properties of air and oil, by inlaying permanent magnets in both ends of the bearing surface and attracting to form a fluid membrane of magnetic powder and lubricant on said bearing surface.
CONSTITUTION: The air supplied on a surface 8' from an air port 11, serves in such a way that previously supplied magnetic fluid is introduced to the both ends of a bearing surface 8' to form a magnetic fluid membrane 13 on permanent magnets 12 and also to form an air membrane therebetween. Since the air on the bearing surface 8' is throttled to flow out by the magnetic fluid membrane 13, performance of the air membrane holding can be enhanced. Moreover, in case the air membrane is overloaded beyond its holding performance, a supporting body 9 is supported by the magnetic fluid membrane 13, therefore, damages such as burning seizure caused by a direct metal to metal contact of the supporting body 9 and the bearing surface 8' can be prevented.
