Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a cathode having excellent durability and low hydrogen overvoltage, by electroplating the surface of a substrate with use of a Ni-plating solution in which carbonaceous particles are dispersed and which contains Pt, Rh, Ir or Pd.
CONSTITUTION: Carbonaceous particles such as active carbon and dispersed into a sulfamic nickel solution, and the solution is let conain 5,000mg/l or less of one or more metal ions selected from Pt, Rh, Ir and Pd. With use of this plating solution, the surface of an electrode substrate is electroplated to form a hydrogen-generating cathode. The cathode obtained by this method has a remarkably low hydrogen overvoltage property and maintains its activity for a long period. In addition, according to this method a low-cost hydrogen-generating electrode can be produced by a simplified operation.
