Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a diagnosis without making the burden too heavy for persons in charge of maintenance, by recognizing various pieces of characteristic information on a group of connection channels and making tables of them, and by exercising control by comparing the tables with similar pieces of inherent information on estimated values. CONSTITUTION:Under the control of a diagnostic processor 12, logical device numbers and physical device numbers of connection channels (CH)11-1-11-n and their priority levels of access to a main storage device 1 are recognized and in the device 1, a CH device number table 4', a logical device number conversion table 5, a physical device number conversion table 6, and a priority level conversion table 7 are formed. According to those tables, input diagnostic data 3 to be applied to a CH controller 8 is converted into that suitable to a connection CH. The resulting data of a diagnosis made by the controller 8 on the basis of the said diagnostic data is compared, under the control of a diagnostic control circuit 16, with an estimated value reconverted into one suitable to the connection CH to make a decision according to the resulting coincidence or dissidence. Thus, a person in charge of mainetenance need not input inherent information on the connection CH to eliminate a heavy burden.
