Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:2-Ethyl-4(5)-methylimidazolyl-[5-(4)]-disulfide of the formula. USE:A compound having rust preventing action on metallic silver, and capable of preventing the rust of the metallic silver by brining a solution of the compound in an organic solvent into contact with the polished surface of the silver at room temperature, and evaporating the solvent from the surface without exhibiting rust preventing action on metallic copper. PROCESS:2-Ethyl-4-methylimidazole is reacted with simple sulfur in dimethyl sulfoxide solvent under heating to give the compound of the formula. Preferably, the reaction mixture is heated to such an extent as to distill low-boiling distillates (boiling point:(28-35 deg.C) consisting of water, dimethyl sulfoxide, methyl sulfide, etc. continuously to the outside of the system.
