Abstract

PURPOSE: A hydrophilic, blood-compatible, antithrombotic surface-modified polymer molding prepared by covalently bonding dextran to the surface of the molding.
CONSTITUTION: A surface-modified polymer molding suitable as a material for blood tubes, catheters, blood bags, is prepared by covalently bonding a water- soluble dextran, e.g., clinical dextran, to a polymer molding (film, bag, tube, etc.) having bondability to dextran, formed from a polydiene, a polyalkylene, glass or the like. Here, as the dextran, an O-substituted dextran is used. In this case, it is possible to conduct the reaction in an organic solvent and it becomes easy to produce a surface-modified polymer molding by bonding the dextran to the surface of a polymer molding and releasing the O-substituents.
