Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent drooping of molten pool and obtain a weld zone of high quality by changing the electric current of a rotating torch by segmenting the entire circumference of pipes by a required number in each position, and making the amt. of the shielding gas of overhead welding larger than that of flat and vertical welding.
CONSTITUTION: Respective necessary peak electric currents between the switching points AWD on pipes 1 are set in an electric current controller 9, and welding is started by rotating torch 6 and a microswitch 7 by means of a ring 5. When the microswitch 7 abuts on the position detecting plate 4 of the point A, the switching point signal P1 is fed to a detector 8 and the position signal P2 is fed to the controller 9 and the position signal P3 to a high pressure gas controller 10. Then, the set peak current IA is fed from a welding machine 11 to the torch 6, and a low pressure gas G' and cooling water W are emitted, and welding is accomplished, but a high pressure gas controller 10 does not operate. When the switching point D is detected similarly, the peak current goes to ID and the controller 10 operates to feed the gas as a shielding gas to the torch 6. At this time, the amt. of the shielding gas at the overhead welding is made larger than that in flat and vertical welding, whereby ocrrect beads are formed.
