Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent neglection of disinfection and permit sure disinfection by using a soft contact lens (SCL) which consists of a hydrated gel, leaves folding seams after it is flexed but erases the seams when sterilized at 70-150 deg.C in an aqueous sonl. CONSTITUTION:A hydrated gel-like lens is made of a copolymer of 2-hydroxymethyl methacrylate, or N-vinyl pyrolidone and a monomer for crosslinking such as ethylene glycol dimethacrylate. When the resultant lens is removed from the eye by being flexed, and is sterilized at 70-150 deg.C in a physiological salt sonl., the folding seams disappear and a normal visual power is obtained; however, at the low temp. and time at and in which the sterilization is insufficient, the folding seams do not disappear and the visual power is low. Hence, the wearer can disinfect the same accurately without forgetting the disinfection. The folding seams disappear in 10min at 100 deg.C and 30min at 120 deg.C, but at 60 deg.C, it takes as long as 2hr, and at 50 deg.C, the folding seams do not disappear after 3hr.
