Abstract
PURPOSE:To attain to make a catalytic combustion apparatus compact by a method wherein an oxidizing catalyst is supported on a catalyst body in the vicinity of a preliminarily mixed gas inflow side and a surface temp. of the catalyst body in the gas inflow side is lowered to prevent a backfire phenomenon. CONSTITUTION:In a catalyst carrier on which alumina or silica is supported, gamma- alumina or the like is not supported to a region b-a of a wall surface in a small pore 2 thereof and said wall surface is constituted by alpha-alumina a material of the catalyst carrier 1. On the other hand, in a region a-c, a wall surface in the small pore 2 is coated with a gamma-alumina layer and, further, a condition wherein gamma-alumina is also taken into an inside of a fine pore of the catalyst carrier is formed. On a surface of said catalyst body, an oxidizing catalyst such as a transition metal oxide, a platinum group metal or the like is supported and arranged to an inflow side of a preliminarily mixed gas. Thereby, a surface temp. of the catalyst body is lowered and held at a ignition point or less. Therefore, a safe and compact catalytic combustion apparatus free from the danger of backfire can be constituted.
