Abstract
PURPOSE:To estimate oxygen quantity contained in molten steel, by immersing a fire resistant probe containing a carbonaceous material under an inert gas atmosphere in molten metal to generate carbon monoxide and by estimating said carbon monoxide gas. CONSTITUTION:A reaction tube 1 made of opaque quartz tube, etc. is provided with a part of a small diameter 2 having a small hole 4 through which the molten steel is introduced. In this figure, 5 is a grasping part made of heat-resisting stainless steel tube and the base part of the tube 1 is made freely detachable by connection metal fittings 6a, 6b. An inert gas preliminarly controlled at a fixed quantity and constant pressure, is sent in the tube 1 from a tube 8. A probe is inserted into the molten steel and said steel is entered the part 2 of the tube 1 and then, is contacted with a carbonaceous substance and as a result of it, carbon monoxide is generated. A tube 9 is carrying tube of sampling gas for taking said carbon monoxide together with the inert gas sent from the tube 8 out of sampling system outside the tube 1.
