PURPOSE:To obtain a cylindrical light source which is free from irregularities in the quantity of light, and has less influence of heat upon illuminating parts by providing a light diffusing material on the inside surface of a cylindrical body, introducing light from the axial direction in the end part of said cylindrical body and emitting the light from the face parallel to the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:Light is introduced from light sources 2a, 2b through IR cut filters 5a, 5b from both ends 4a, 4b of a cylindrical body 1 having a light releasing opening part 7, and coated with a light diffusing material such as magnesium oxide or white fluorescent paint. The light introduced into the body 1 is uniformly diffused by the light diffusing material, and is emitted from the opening 7 of a slit shape. Arbitrary exposure control as a light source for slit exposure is possible by input voltage controlling of the light sources 2a, 2b, and since there are no heating elements in the cylindrical body, the influence of heat on illuminating parts is less.
