Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a piston from occurrence of local friction and knocking noise in such a way that the outer periphery of a piston skirt part is formed by combining an ellipse facing a minor axis equal to the length of the direction of the pin-hole with a circle centering the center of the piston, and the upper and lower ends of the skirt part are arcuately chamfered. CONSTITUTION:A skirt part 3 is formed beneath the head part 1 of the piston body which provides ring grooves 2, the outer periphery 3a which is faced opposite to the direction to a pin hole 4 is formed into an ellipse in which the direction to the pin hole is made its minor axis , and the outer periphery 3b in the orthogonal direction to the pin hole is made into an arc centering the center of the piston. The central angle theta of the outer periphery 3b is estabilished to be approximately 20 deg. to 30 deg., and the upper and lower parts 3c, 3d in the whole outer periphery of the skirt part 3 is arcuately chamfered. And, chamfering rate of the upper and lower end parts 3c, 3d are properly established. Thus, sliding contact area of the skirt part 3 is made into an optimum vlue, and friction loss can be reduced without yielding oscillation of the piston.
