Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the control of the amount of grinding by a method wherein a grinding head is transferred in a direction normal to the outer circumference of a disk while it is pressed against the disk to grind and the velocity of the transfer of the disk in the radial direction is controlled selectively. CONSTITUTION:The grinding head 1 transfers from the inner circumferential section to the outer circumferential section as it processes the surface of the magnetic disk 3 with a grinding tape 2 under a predetermined pressure. In order to shape the magnetic disk 3 to a film 5 of a uniform angle of inclination and a uniform thickness, the position of a velocity change position detecting section 6 comprised of a plurality of detecting pieces is first detected. Then, simultaneously with the initiation of grinding, a velocity control signal is generated from a velocity setting output section 7 which corresponds to the detecting section 6 and the signal is applied on a velocity control section 9 via a velocity change rate setting section 8 so that grinding head drive section 10 is operated at a velocity corresponding to the velocity control signal. Thus, it is possible to determine freely the amount of grinding of the disk 3 in the radial direction and to control the amount of grinding in a simple manner.
